About Me

Self Portait. 2023. 11.7 x 16.5". Wax Pastel on Paper.

My work is an intimate worship of creation itself. Through lovingly detailed rendering of Earth’s finest beings, forms, and phenomena, I hope to share my feeling of adoration and respect with viewers of my work. I currently apply these concepts using water soluble wax pastels, a medium in the crossroads of drawing and painting in which delicate washes using water as well as fine detail with sharpened pastel can be achieved.

Kirsti Barrows-Smith is a lifelong artist from Southern NH, and earned her BFA in 2D Studio art from Plymouth State University in 2014. She now lives in Somerville MA where she gets to work with a wide range of art and artists as a Custom Picture Frame Designer in Cambridge. In her free time, she creates pieces of many media including fiber art, clay sculpture, and image manipulation, but her true love is drawing. Her inspiration comes largely from animals and the natural world, the beauty and luxury of art in the 19th and 20th centuries, and the work of our ancient ancestors.
